accio     fans !

expelliarmus       muggles !

avada kedavra         death eaters !

hi there and welcome to my world. Well, Rowling’s world actually, but now i am an integral part of it( or the other way round). There’s been much ado about Harry potter ever since the first book was released !( i was in my 7th class when the book was in my hands.. and now i am in the final year of my engineering)

Harry’s world is special in a multitude of senses , with the extremely imaginative and creative description of  every part of it , to the actual characters involved. This is the second of those books which really ought to exist in a parallel universe , which is preceeded only by Lord of the rings.

While the latter presents a more mature and grave world to the reader, Harry Potter series is juvenile and humorous in a way that appeals to teenagers.I am not a what you call “die-hard fan” of these books, but i admit having read then more that “just a couple of times”

What then, makes this books interesting ? I bet 10 galleons that  every knows the answer… its pure magic !

Magical worlds have always fascinated people, giving them the reason to hope, to believe that things can be possible that are otherwise termed impossible or illogical. I like the richness of the story, of the lives and characters involved, (although the plot gets murkier as we trudge along) .I am a muggle in the day and a wizard at night  😀  so i will summarize a few things before i transform !

1.Harry potter and the socerer’s /philosopher’s stone .

Pretty much the foundation of Harry’s world, this book is the one that generates actual interest in the series. Absolutely wonderful, and  i read both the versions of the book.

2. Harry potter and the Chamber of Secrets

The second book of the series, which ends with harry fending off a huge Basilisk, ultimately killing it. Nice plot. Nice tempo.

3. Harry potter and the prisoner of Azkaban.

The wizarding prison is introduced, with its escaped inmate Sirius Black  tracking harry, and this gives a whole new dimension into the past as well as present. Harry masters the patronus charm and defends his Godfather.

4.Harry potter and the goblet of fire.

It starts with the Quidditch world cup,and this is also the beginning of Harry’s troubles, where he is unwillingly chosen to compete in wizarding school’s most prestigious tournament,  get into a fight with his best friend Ron, and sees the Dark Lord Voldemort revive.

5.Harry potter and the Order of the Phoenix

The Order is reformed, dedicated to fight Voldemort, and Harry copes with an ugly and terrible new headmistress at school. He finally runs into Voldemort, nearly killing himself if Dumbledore were not to intervene. And the whole world now accepts Harry’s version of Voldemort.

6.Harry Potter and the Half Blood prince

This book was not special, just a prelude to the final copy , filling all the details of mysterious objects, and finally ending with the death of  Dumbledore

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

This is the final book, and harry’s struggle reaches its peak, forcing him to run, to uncover many secrets and finally take revenge. It was not the kind of ending expected, but then, who else can change the ending !If Rowling feels thats best, so be it !

All in all, it was one of the best experiences and the longest series of novels i have read !

good night!

Petrificus totalus !

Lord of the rings ..

Hi again.

I am devoting this post to the Lord of the rings , because it has the privilege of being the only book  in my entire life which  took more than a week for me to complete . Enough said.  Let me share my views with you  now.

In my hands is the big fat book which I adore, containing all the three parts in a single volume.

“Three rings for the elven kings under the sky

Seven for the dwrd lords in their halls of stone

Nine for the mortal men doomed to die

One for the dark lord on his dark throne

One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them

One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bbind them

in the land of Mordor where shadows lie

I have always known this by heart .. such is the influence this one had on me.

This great book, which spans thousands of elven years , artfully combines the grace of the elves, the endurance of the dwarves, the brutality of the orcs, the legends of the dead, the pride of the riders , the vanity of men , and the hope  of the hobbits .

This book forcefully  ignites the desire to imagine, to view Tolkein’s world as our own, and this persists until we believe more in it than the real world.

The scope of the book, the cultures and eras  are described with such care and precision, that they  all seem to really exist in a  parallel universe.

I am watching with my eye of Barad-Dur .. so all the readers beware  😀

I havent mentioned Aragorn or the Riders of rohan ,as   their roles din’t seem dominant enough compared to the rest of the story put together.

The Eye of Barad-Dur                                The ring of Sauron

Hi friends.

I know i am using up too much space on the web 😀 ..in blogspot, in orkut, twitter and facebook , but this blog is a necessity.

I wish to satisfy my literary desires here, mostly writing about books i want to read, books that i have already read , and finally the  things that i am going to write.

I am a bibiliomaniac, especially when it comes to novels and stuff , and i  read 3 to 4 novels every week.

The most recent of my adventures was with Twilight, so addictive and yet strangely familiar , and i spent two days ( and two sleepless nights) continuously reading all the four in the series.

Now i am starting the “accidental werewolf ”  of the accidental series.
